- What:
- Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”
- Last week’s recipient:
- Sandra Patty Barcelo.
- Nominated by:
- Laura Vasquez.
- Why:
- For working with young refugees who come to Tucson adjust to life in the United States. Barcelo is a refugee from Guatemala who came here as a young child, Vasquez wrote in her nomination letter. She recently traveled to Guatemala to help a co-worker whose daughter became sick there during a trip. She helped get the girl back to the United States, working with doctors and an insurance company. She always has a smile and infectious laughter and fills the hearts of young refugees with so much love, Vasquez wrote. “She is the most kind-hearted, loving individual I am blessed to know,” Vasquez wrote.
