On Feb. 27, 1984, Steinfeld's president, Lee Davis, stood in front of the store's new Green Valley location. Davis, whose great-uncle Albert was the company's namesake, was closing Steinfeld's El Con department store and switching the stores to smaller women's wear specialty shops. In addition to Green Valley, there were shops in Casas Adobes and the Tucson Mall. But by November 1984, Steinfeld's, a fixture in Tucson for more than a century, ceased all retail operations.
