Members of the Oro Valley Amateur Radio Club will take part in the annual national emergency preparedness event known simply as “Field Day” this weekend.
The two-day drill, running from 11 a.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday, is sponsored by the American Radio Relay League and will include more than 35,000 radio operators from across North America.
Local participants will set up radio transmitting and receiving equipment at the Oro Valley Police Tangerine substation, 1922 E. Tangerine Road.
The goal is to test and improve the skills of local operators to prepare them for when disasters strike.
The event is open to the public.
