A woman died in a three-vehicle crash Saturday on the southbound Interstate 19 off-ramp at West Valencia Road, Tucson police said.
Mariana Ruiz, 35, a passenger in a white 2014 Honda Civic involved in the collision, was declared dead at the scene after the 9:30 a.m. crash, police said in a news release. The driver of that car, a 40-year-old man, was taken to a hospital. No one else was injured.
Police said the Honda Civic driver exited the interstate at Valencia at high speed, sideswiping the driver's side of a gold 2002 Toyota Camry, and then running into the back of a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer while they were stopped at a red light.
The crash was caused by the Civic driver's high speed and failure to control his vehicle, the police news release said, adding: "He has not been issued any civil citations or charged for any criminal offenses at this time. However, the investigation is ongoing."
