Tucsonans better cover their frost-sensitive plants and let their pets in the house for the next few nights as forecast low temperatures hover at or below freezing and daytime temperatures top out in the 40s and 50s.
A wet weekend dropped about a quarter inch of rain in the greater Tucson area, but the Old Pueblo still is slightly below average for year-to-date precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.
Mount Lemmon saw a 10-inch snowfall over the weekend, and it should stick around a while.
For the next week, daily highs on the mountain will inch up from the 20s to the 40s, while the lows will remain in the teens and single digits. As of noon Sunday, the Catalina Highway to Mount Lemmon was open to the top with no restrictions, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
"This week it's still going to be pretty cold," said meteorologist Steven Reedy of the National Weather Service Tucson office. "We have one more system coming in. The bulk of the precipitation should stay north of Tucson in the White Mountains, but we should still have a couple of cold nights here. We should warm up by midweek and gear up for a pretty nice weekend."
