Hal Friedrichs was turning in his barber shears for a fishing pole. On June 19, 1984, after 20 years as a barber at the Tucson airport, Friedrichs was retiring and heading off to Michigan to see if the fish were biting. Friedrichs was using the upcoming airport renovation as a good reason to close the shop he had managed since the building opened in 1963. Among the famous customers he had clipped were John Wayne, Walter Brennan and Andy Devine. Friedrichs said he planned to keep the whiskey glass used by Chill Wills when he got his haircut.
