Hours after opening her eyes for the first time, doctors are performing “aggressive physical therapy” on U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and are nothing short of astounded by her progress.
Doctors have her up in bed with her legs dangling over the side.
“She is starting to become aware of her surroundings,” said Dr. Michael Lemole.
“This is a major leap forward, this is a major milestone,” he said.
Doctors hope that tomorrow she’ll be up in a chair.
She can move both of her legs and both her arms, and is keeping her eyes open for 10-15 minutes at a time, doctors said.
Her recovery is so miraculous that Lemole said it can’t all be chalked up to modern medical care.
