The Northwest Fire District’s governing board named Assistant Chief Michael Brandt as interim fire chief during a special session board meeting Thursday night.
Brandt will take over operations on Oct. 1 when the current Fire Chief, Jeff Piechura, leaves for a job with the Stockton California Fire Department.
Brandt, a graduate of Arizona State University, has more than 35 years of Fire/EMS Service in the Tucson area.
Northwest Fire/Rescue District provides fire protection, emergency medical services and related public education to 110,000 residents and 3,300 commercial buildings in a 140-square-mile area.
