Crews are working to repair streetcar lines on South 5th Avenue after a dump truck ran through the overhead conducting system this morning, authorities said.
South 5th Avenue between East Broadway Boulevard and East Congress Street will be closed to vehicle traffic until at least 5 p.m., said Tucson Police Department spokeswoman Sergeant Kimberly Bay.
No one was injured in the incident.
Streetcar service on the west side route, which runs through downtown, from 4th Avenue at 9th Street through Avenida del Convento, has been shut down while repairs are being made, said City of Tucson spokesman Michael Graham.
Shuttle buses are being used to transport passengers, and there is no estimated time in which the streetcar line will be fixed, he said.
Streetcar service on the east side route, from Helen Street to the 4th Avenue at 9th Street, is running as scheduled.
