An overheated coffee roaster sparked a fire on the roof of a midtown coffeehouse today.
Around 11:30 a.m., a nearby resident called firefighters after smelling smoke. Firefighters then discovered a fire coming from the roof of Raging Sage Coffee Roasters, 2458 N. Campbell Ave., said Jeff Langejans, a Tucson Fire Department spokesman.
“The roaster was red hot and smoke was starting to get pretty thick,” he said.
It took 15 minutes for 27 firefighters to control the blaze.
There were six employees and 10 customers in Raging Sage when the fire was discovered. There were no injuries.
Significant damage to the roof structure has left Raging Sage without electricity, Langejans said, and the damage estimate is $40,000.
Raging Sage will remain closed until repairs can be made, Langejans said.
