Harelson 2nd-graders give Fire Dept. toys
Students from Harelson Elementary School's second-grade class donated stuffed animals to the Tucson Fire Department. Fire Engine 8 crew members accepted the gifts.
When firefighters respond to emergency calls, stuffed animals are often given to comfort any children involved. This is part of Tucson Fire Department's Operation Hug-A-Bear Program.
As part of civics studies, teacher Bonnie Whalon holds a monthly election and the class votes for a student governor. The child selected as the governor for that month decides what the class will do for the community that month.
Eve Pearson, 8, decided that each student would donate a stuffed animal to the Fire Department. Thirty-two stuffed animals were collected.
