The U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized several firearms and more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition headed for Mexico at the Douglas port of entry on Monday.
During a routine outbound operation, officers referred a 22-year-old male from Nogales, Ariz. for secondary inspection. In the man’s pickup truck, officers found the ammunition, “five Colt M-4 rifles, one Bushmaster M-4 rifle, one 9 mm Beretta pistol and seven ammunition magazines,” according to a news release from the agency.
Officers found that the Bushmaster was reported stolen out of Tennessee after running record queries on the seized weapons.
The Nogales man was handed over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation, the news release said.
