An impaired driver struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday night then went on to cause a three-vehicle wreck, Tucson police say.
The incident started about 7 p.m. when Antonio Benjamin Dorame, 25, was struck and killed as he crossed North Oracle Road, near West Miracle Mile, police said in a news release.
The driver of the northbound 2005 Honda Civic fled and ran a red light at West Fort Lowell Road, smashing into a vehicle that was turning left onto Oracle. Three vehicles were ultimately involved in that crash, police said.
The Honda driver, Juan Carlos Urquidez, 21, was taken to the hospital prior to being booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of manslaughter, four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of felony endangerment and felony criminal damage. Bond was set at $250,000, the release said.
Investigators say Urquidez was speeding before striking Dorame, who died at the crash scene. He also was later determined to be impaired, the release said.
