A man killed during a robbery Monday afternoon at a north-side convenience store has been identified as 54-year-old Mahesh Patel.
Patel, a clerk at the Catalina Market at 2601 N. Columbus Boulevard, was found dead on the floor inside the store by Tucson police just after 1 p.m. Monday, according to a department news release.
Patel's body had "obvious signs of trauma," the release said. Police have declined to elaborate on the victim's cause of death.
Witnesses told police they saw a man - described as about 5-foot-8, weighing 180 to 190 pounds, with short hair, a visible earring and a tattoo on his neck - leave the store carrying a cash register and get into a Chrysler 300 sedan, according to the release.
A second man - described as being between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet, weighing between 230 and 250 pounds and wearing a light blue shirt - was seen with the vehicle, the release said.

The vehicle, as well as the cash register, were found abandoned in the 2700 block of North Eastgate Drive, less than a mile from the store, the release said.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
