A caregiver at a Tucson assisted living facility, suspected of stealing jewelry from an elderly resident, was arrested Tuesday.
Sylvia Delgado Cruz, 63, was booked into Pima County jail for theft and trafficking in stolen property, said Deputy Tom Peine, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
The theft was reported Oct. 16 by the daughter of the 86-year-old assisted living resident. The victim said nine pieces of jewelry worth several thousands of dollars were missing, and provided a list of individuals who had access to her apartment.
Detectives found several pieces of stolen jewelry that had been pawned by Cruz. A search of her home turned up four more pieces of jewelry, Peine said.
The investigation is ongoing.
