A truck driver from Tucson has been charged with sexual battery with bodily harm and aggravated battery after authorities said he raped a hitchhiker and stabbed her repeatedly with a screwdriver.
Elgin Lovell Hogan, 37, has been transferred from Santa Rosa County, where he was apprehended, to Walton County and was being held on a $100,000 bond Wednesday.
Hogan, of Tucson, was detained by Santa Rosa sheriff's deputies Monday morning after a woman was found bleeding in the restroom of an Interstate 10 rest area east of Crestview in Florida's panhandle.
A rest-stop visitor discovered the victim, who was trying to stop her wounds from bleeding, and alerted a security guard.
Karol Johnson, who was working at the rest area, said the bleeding woman had been stabbed in the eye, ear, mouth and arm. Johnson said the woman said her assailant used a screwdriver to stab her after raping her.

The victim is in her early 50s and is from Ocala, Fla. The Arizona Daily Star does not name the victims of alleged sex crimes.
The woman reportedly told Johnson and authorities that her assailant became violent when she told him she wouldn't have sex with him.
She said he raped her, stabbed her and left her at the rest area.
The Walton County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation because that's where authorities think the stabbing took place.
A check of online court records in Tucson did not show any cases involving Hogan.
