A man who shot himself to death Friday on the side of Interstate 19 following a minor collision has been identified as a 53-year-old Tucsonan.
Norman Daniel Yingling had been suffering from depression, his family told police.
The fatal shooting occurred in public sight on I-19 south of Tucson.
Yingling was backed up in traffic following an unrelated fatal crash when he rear-ended a vehicle.
He then walked 20 to 30 yards to the side of the highway and shot himself, Tohono O'odham police said.
Officers found two 9 mm handguns at the scene, including a Ruger next to Yingling's body, Tohono O'odham Detective Marty Fuentes said. He also had a derringer in his pocket, Fuentes said.
The person who was rear-ended in that collision was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Isabel Zarate De La Rosa, 77, was a passenger in a vehicle going northbound on I-19 near Pima Mine Road when it slowed to make an illegal left turn into the highway's center median, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Her vehicle was struck from behind, and Zarate De La Rosa - a Phoenix resident - had to be taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle that rear-ended her suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
