Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is expected to attend today's sentencing of Jared Lee Loughner in federal court in Tucson.
Loughner is scheduled to be sentenced for the Jan. 8, 2011, shootings that left six people dead and 13 injured, including Giffords. She is expected to attend with her husband, Mark Kelly, who will speak on behalf of the family.
Loughner, 24, will be sentenced on 19 charges related to the shooting. He pleaded guilty in August and struck a deal that assures he will not get the death penalty. His change of plea came after more than a year of wrangling over his competence to stand trial; he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
His expected sentence is life in prison without parole.
