The bodies of a man and a woman who were shot to death were found Saturday evening on the side of South Houghton Road near East Escalante Road, after reports of a fight in that area, Tucson police said.
The dead were believed to be a 56-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, but their identities had not been confirmed, said Sgt. Diana Lopez, a police spokeswoman. They may have known each other, but that also was still under investigation.
Lopez gave this account:
Starting at 5:50 p.m., police received numerous 911 calls reporting a fight between a man and a woman. Calls came in from the 10000 block of East Falcon Point Drive and also from the nearby area of Houghton and Escalante.
Witnesses to the fight also told police they saw a man with a gun get into a vehicle and drive to near Houghton and Escalante.

Police investigated and found the two bodies on Houghton.
They did not know if the man who was seen driving to the area was involved in the fight or if he was one of the two who died.
No further information was available from police.
A neighbor said he saw officers with rifles surround a house on Falcon Point Drive. A "cop jumped the wall of the house and was watching the house," said neighbor Andrew Dennehy. The house was later cordoned off with yellow police tape.
During the investigation, all lanes of Houghton Road between Irvington and Golf Links roads were closed for several hours.
