A family of three and their nine dogs were displaced after a carport fire damaged their midtown home Tuesday morning, fire officials said.
A neighbor called 911 about 11:40 a.m. reporting flames coming out of the house in the 2200 block of South Tucson Boulevard, near East 22nd Street, said Capt. Trish Tracy, a Tucson fire spokeswoman.
As Tucson fire crews were on the way to the house, a Tucson Water employee was driving by, saw the fire and cut a lock on the gate, to knock on the door and make sure nobody was inside, Tracy said. Nobody was home and there were no injuries reported, she said.
Firefighters found four dogs and five puppies in the back of the house and got them out safely, she said.
The fire spread from the carport to the bedroom and kitchen causing about $50,000 damage, Tracy said.
