St. Augustine Catholic girls take 5th in state track meet in Mesa
Despite having only five athletes, St. Augustine Catholic High School's girls track team made the most of their first-ever trip to the Class 1A state meet.
The Wolves finished fifth overall with 46 points, scoring in every event they entered last Saturday at Mesa High School.
"They've got an unbeliveable work ethic," coach Al Buhl said. "They've got a mental toughness that is amazing. They just don't like to lose."
Leading the way was junior Sandy Crusa, who won the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, earning her a spot in Saturday's state meet of champions in Chandler.
Also faring well was freshman Sabrina Dohman, who was second in the 400-meter dash and along with Crusa was part of St. Augustine's state champion sprint medley relay team.
