"Look over there," Axel Munoz said, pointing. Members of the Sonoran Desert Kids Club followed his command and saw an owl sleeping in a tree at the main pond at Roy P. Drachman-Agua Caliente Regional Park.
Munoz is a volunteer educator for the club, which meets once a month. On Saturday, he showed club members and their families around the park and taught them about the different species and characteristics of ducks.
With binoculars and books in hand, children searched for local winter waterfowl to learn their habits and traits while recording their findings on "duck diagrams."
Birds aren't the only thing he covers, though. Upcoming topics include "Jammin' With Nature," a day of learning the natural sounds of wildlife, and "My Nature Space," a day of quiet exploration, with a lesson on how to start a nature journal.
