1887: The first train robbery in Arizona history takes place when two masked men take $20,000 from the Southern Pacific passenger train 17 miles east of Tucson.
1889: A bill which moves the territorial capitol from Prescott to Phoenix is signed.
1965: The University of Arizona men's basketball team upsets eighth-ranked (Associated Press poll) San Francisco, 71-56. The following week the Wildcats earn the team's first national ranking since 1951.
1996: The Dallas Cowboys defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-17, at Arizona State's Sun Devil Stadium in the first Super Bowl played in Arizona.
