Canyon Del Oro High School grad Bryn Timmis has cooked up a $5,000 culinary school scholarship after winning a national recipe contest.
Timmis is one of three students in the country to win a scholarship from the American Institute for Cancer Research in the 2014 AICR/C-CAP Small Plates Super Foods Recipe Contest, a national competition sponsored by the Careers Through Culinary Arts Program and AICR to inspire young chefs to create foods that protect people from cancer.
“Like most young people, I hadn't learned all that much about eating healthy before entering this competition, so it was great to be able to learn a lot about eating smart," said Timmis in a news release.
His winning recipe was for seared scallops with beet puree and arugula salad. He will attend Culinary Institute of America on a full-tuition scholarship.
