Why Paris Could Become The First Major City To Ban Cars
Paris is positioning itself to become the first major global metropolis to phase out personal cars entirely. Under aggressive urban policies led by Mayor Hidalgo, Paris has eliminated half of its car traffic over the past two decades. A cornerstone of this transformation is the "15-Minute City" model: neighborhoods where residents can access everything on foot or by bicycle. The city has already converted major roads like the scenic banks of the Seine into dedicated pedestrian and cycling zones. Paris also introduced a "Limited Traffic Zone" across its historic center, banning through-traffic and non-essential vehicles. Strict environmental regulations also bar older, high-emission diesel and gasoline vehicles from entering the city.
