Question: I happened to catch a program on TV. It was called: The Burning Man Celebration for 2007. It was conducted at Black Rock City, Nev. Just wondering, what is this Burning Man Celebration about?
Answer: According to its Web site, Burning Man is an annual experiment in temporary community dedicated to uncensored self-expression and ultimate self-reliance. The weeklong, eclectic art festival attracts nearly 40,000 people who descend on a dry lakebed in the Black Rock Desert in northwestern Nevada around Labor Day each year to celebrate countercultural creativity. It takes its name from the ritual of the burning of a large sculpture of a man amidst dancing and general anarchy. Check out www.burningman.com for photos and info.
Question: Where is it the coldest, the North Pole or the South Pole?
Answer: The South Pole is much colder, and on more days, than the North Pole. The average temperature in August, the coldest month at the South Pole, is approximately minus 76 degrees Fahrenheit. The average temperature of January, the warmest month, is minus 18 degrees. Though long-term weather records aren't available for the North Pole, the daily temperatures since 2003 have swung between about minus 40 during December and January to a little above freezing in June, July and August.
