Kennedy sister dies
BOSTON — Patricia Kennedy Lawford, the sister of President John F. Kennedy and wife of actor Peter Lawford, died at her New York home of complications of pneumonia on Sunday, according to a family statement. She was 82.
"My sister Pat is irreplaceable," Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy said in a statement. "Everyone who knew Pat adored her. She was admired for her great style, for her love and support of the arts, her wit and generosity — and for the singular sense of wonder and joy she brought into our lives."
Patricia Kennedy was the sixth child and fourth daughter of Rose and Joseph Kennedy's nine children.
She met British actor Peter Lawford through her brother, the future president, in 1949. They were married in 1954 and had four children before divorcing in 1965.

E. coli outbreak toll now at 109
SAN FRANCISCO — The number of people sickened by an E. coli outbreak traced to tainted spinach rose to 109 on Sunday, as federal officials announced more brands recalling their products.
Natural Selection Foods LLC, the world's largest producer of organic produce, has been linked to the infected greens, prompting a recall of 34 brands, including the company's own labels and those of other companies that had contracts with Natural Selection to produce or package its spinach.
On Sunday, a second producer was linked to the contamination. River Ranch Fresh Foods recalled spring mixes containing spinach sold under the labels Hy-Vee, Fresh N' Easy, and Farmers Market, FDA officials said. All contain spinach bought from Natural Selection.

U.S., state to rent in Freedom Tower
NEW YORK — Federal and state officials have agreed to rent half of the Freedom Tower when it opens in about five years at the World Trade Center site — sealing one part of an elaborate deal that would, if finalized, divide control of what to build there.
The federal General Services Administration and the state Office of General Services signed agreements last week to rent 1.1 million of the Freedom Tower's 2.6 million square feet of office space, officials announced Sunday.
The 15-year leases include space for the governor's office and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office that once occupied one of the smaller buildings in the trade center complex.

Kidnapping suspect charged with rape
LUGOFF — A man suspected of kidnapping a 14-year-old girl and keeping her in an underground bunker was charged Sunday with raping the teen, Kershaw County Sheriff Steve McCaskill said.
Kershaw County Sheriff Steve McCaskill said Vinson Filyaw had eluded police with an elaborate system of hideouts and bunkers since November 2005 when he was charged with criminal sexual conduct on a 12-year-old girl.
He surrendered Sunday to police as he walked along Interstate 20 near Columbia, about five miles from where investigators found the teenager. Police say Filyaw, 36, abducted the girl as she walked home from a school bus stop on Sept. 6.
