According to statistica, the percent of Americans identifying as non-binary has been increasing over the generations. In 2022, the percent of Generation z identifying as non-binary was 19.7 percent. Generation y ( or millinials) was 11.2 percent. Generation x was 3.3. Baby boomers was 2.7 and the silent Generation was 1.7 percent. There has been a great debate since the mid 1800's about how much of a person's characteristics we are born with and how much are acquired through interaction with our environment.. My question is: Do we have a higher percentage of nonbinary people because of changes to our genes caused by changes in our environment? Or do we have a higher percentage of non- binaries because of influencing from celebrities and social media personalities?
