Regarding the letter "Border security" in Saturday's paper, if a young mother and her child knocked at your door and said terrible people were following them and going to kill them, would you turn them away, or would you let them in and call the authorities so they could get to a safe place? Now do you understand?
And the letter "First lady comparison strikes out", many people don't seem to understand that these are refugees by definition, families who are fleeing for their lives, just like you would do if you were in their situation. Also, no matter how many times the conservatives push this idea, these are not illegal crossings. Asylum seekers are granted entry by American law for processing, no matter where they cross. Please get your facts straight. Just read the paper which you are submitting your letter to. These families know the consequences, but they are threatened with death if they stay. What would you do? I think we know the answer to that one.
