To the Editor:
I would like to comment on the letter from Frank Ribero, posted on Friday, October 20.
I also have worked with the HSSA as a volunteer and have taken note of some questionable policies and practices that could be indicators of the conditions that Mr. Ribero outlines. It's a travesty that does need to be laid at the feet of executive leadership. In my opinion, executives of any humanitarian charity should act in humane ways, outside of personal interests. If they can't do that, they should be replaced quickly by the governing board.
That said, I know of many employees and friends of the HSSA who do not condone such activities in the least; in fact they are appalled at the mere thought of animal mistreatment. Let's not cut off our generous donations for the actions of a few bad players. Let's dispose of the bad players and be kind and caring for the dogs and cats entrusted to the care of the HSSA.
