Re: the Aug. 2 column "To improve our kids' thinking, we should ask better questions."
What a marvelous tool guest columnist Kathleen Bethel has given not only parents, but also teachers! I could really have used her ideas about creative questions to get kids thinking when I was an elementary teacher. I hope many teachers read her piece and also begin to incorporate her suggestions in their own classrooms. She has hit upon the very crux of what education is supposed to be all about: learning critical thinking skills, not memorizing facts. These are skills that our students will be able to use throughout their lives.
I hope many parents also read this article, take it to heart, and start applying it in their families. It sounds like the perfect tool to improve communication between parents and children. Wish my parents had known how to ask better questions. Thank you, Kathleen Bethel!
