Trump Rolls Out New Tariffs On Dozens Of Countries
The Trump administration has introduced new tariffs on imports from dozens of countries, with most affected goods now facing duties of either 10% or 12.5% when entering the US. According to the Office of the US Trade Representative, the new tariffs apply to around 60 trading partners that account for nearly all US imports. The move follows a months-long investigation into allegations that forced labor was used to produce goods exported to the US. US administration officials say the tariffs are intended to support US trade policy goals while addressing these concerns. Some countries qualified for the lower 10% tariff after taking steps to combat alleged forced labor, while others will face the higher 12.5% rate. Several governments have already criticized the decision. The European Union called the move a “negative surprise” and rejected the allegations. Brazil also opposed the tariffs and renewed its call for reciprocal trade measures, while Australia described the action as “completely unjustified.”
