What you need to know about NBA creative contracts

Alkins reportedly agreed with the Toronto Raptors to an “Exhibit 10” contract, a new agreement created in the 2017 collective bargaining agreement. Here’s how it works:

• Players can be given bonuses ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 for attending summer league and fall training camp.
• They are otherwise not guaranteed and pay only the minimum NBA salary if a player makes the team.
• If the player is cut, the team has the right to convert the Exhibit 10 to a standard two-way contract.

Kobi Simmons and Kadeem Allen signed two-way contracts last season after leaving Arizona, and Allonzo Trier has agreed to one with New York.

Here’s how they work:

• Players with four years of service or less can sign two-way deals.
• A player can be paid up to $50,000 for attending an NBA training camp.
• He is guaranteed $75,000 if spending the entire season in the G League but can earn up to $275,000 depending on the days spent in the NBA. Two-way players are paid 1/170 of the rookie minimum contract per day ($4,798) they are in the NBA.
• Players with two-way deals essentially take the 16th and 17th roster spots on an NBA team.
• But if they spend more than 45 days in the NBA, they must be cut or converted to a regular contract. Their NBA club must terminate the two-way deal and create one of its 15 conventional roster spots for them.
