Chargers QB Justin Herbert is the odds-on favorite, with Josh Allen and Tom Brady not far behind. But there's another quarterback to keep an eye on.
The wait is almost over. The NFL returns to action this week with some intriguing matchups in the offing right from the the start.
It all begins Thursday night as the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams play host to the Buffalo Bills at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. The oddsmakers have the Bills as the favorites to win the AFC at +280. The Rams are the third-favorite to win the NFC at +550.
Will Buffalo's rising star quarterback Josh Allen get the better of veteran and NFL crown holder Matthew Stafford of Los Angeles?

Surprising lines for starters
A couple games stick out as head scratchers, the first being the Rams getting 2.5 points at home against Buffalo. The status of Stafford's throwing arm remains a bit of a question heading into the opener and could be the deciding factor in the outcome.
The struggling Carolina Panthers are a 2.5-point favorite at home against the Cleveland Browns. With Baker Mayfield now quarterbacking the Panthers, facing his former teammates, emotions will run high. With Deshaun Watson suspended, Cleveland turns to Jacoby Brissett to run the offense. Mistake-free QB play goes a long way to determining the winner here. Â
Betting big on Ryan
Veteran quarterback Matt Ryan, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons, makes his debut for the Indianapolis Colts against the Houston Texans. The Colts are an 8-point favorite, the biggest on the board in the initial week of play. Ryan presents a major upgrade in Indy, which has struggled at the QB position since the abrupt retirement of Andrew Luck in 2019. The Texans, meanwhile, turn to new head coach Lovie Smith and quarterback Davis Mills. Thus, the large spot for the visiting Colts.Â
Totally awesome
With two great offenses led by a pair of impactful quarterbacks, the Kansas City Chiefs visit to the Arizona Cardinals presents the largest Over/Under for Week 1 (53.5 points). The ever-efficient Patrick Mahomes of K.C. meets the mercurial Kyler Murray in the desert. Will Murray be motivated to justify his lucrative new contract? Will Mahomes begin to make a case for another most valuable player award? Hot stuff in Phoenix.
