The Arizona Wildcats' 4x400-meter relay team came away with a victory at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.
Arizona's quartet of sophomore Shapri Romero, senior Echos Blevins, sophomore Tamara Pridgett and junior Georganne Moline won in a time of 3 minutes 35.60 seconds.
"I'm really excited about how the women's 4x400-meter relay team ran today," UA coach Fred Harvey said in a news release. Race disrupted by protester
MORTLAKE, England - The Boat Race, one of England's most historic sporting events, was brought to a standstill Saturday when a protester jumped into the River Thames and narrowly avoided being struck by the oars of the Oxford and Cambridge crews.
An intruder protesting against elitism and privilege brought both boats to a standstill just over halfway through the 4 2/3-mile race when he swam into the middle of the river. When the contest restarted after a 31-minute delay, Oxford's German rower, Dr. Hanno Wienhausen, lost half of his oar after the crews clashed, leaving Cambridge an almost unchallenged path to a 4 1/2-length win.
To add to the drama, Oxford bow man Dr. Alexander Woods was taken to a hospital after collapsing post-race. Paramedics said Woods was in a stable condition but would be kept overnight for monitoring. The reason for his collapse remains unknown.
