Georgia celebrates winning the SEC Championship on Saturday in Atlanta after beating LSU. The Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff and will face No. 4 Ohio State on New Year's Eve.
The College Football Playoffs are set, and with all the drama that ensued over this past Friday and Saturday during Power 5 conference championship games, the committee seemed to have gotten the Final Four right.
Undefeated Georgia will be the No. 1 seed, while Michigan, which is also undefeated, is the second seed. Despite losing to Kansas State in the Big 12 title game Saturday, TCU (12-1) made the playoff and will be seeded third, while Ohio State (11-1) comes in as the fourth-and-final seed.
The Bulldogs (13-0), who are the defending national champions, beat LSU for the SEC championship Saturday in Atlanta to be the undisputed No. 1 selection. Georgia will face the Buckeyes in the second semifinal game on New Year’s Eve in the Peach Bowl, back in Atlanta, at 8 p.m.
Ohio State’s playoff hopes seemed to be dashed after getting demolished by Michigan at home in the regular-season finale. However, USC, which entered the Pac-12 title game as the No. 4 team in the CFP, fell to Utah in the conference championship Friday night to open the door for the Buckeyes. It was the Trojans second loss of the season. With just one loss, the committee put the Buckeyes in the Final Four.
Michigan (13-0) and TCU will play in the first playoff game in the Fiesta Bowl at 4 p.m. Dec. 31, in Glendale, Ariz.
The Wolverines beat Purdue in the Big Ten championship game on Saturday night in Indianapolis. The Horned Frogs fell to K-State in overtime in the Big 12 title game.
