There are 18 city and nine county public pools in the area. We are going to all of them so we give you a glimpse of what each one is like.

Which ones have shade? Which ones have grass? Do they have slides but only allow certain ages to go on them? We will do the legwork, so you don't have to.

Quincie Douglas Pool

Quincie Douglas Pool is at 1563 E. 36th Street, between Kino and Park. It is open April through November.

Pools: There's a huge swimming area for the kids, which only goes to three-and-a-half feet deep and a 25-yard competitive course. It's all part one giant pool, but it's roped off into sections.

Hours: Recreational swim is from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 7 p.m. on Saturdays.

Features: There's a 144-foot long water slide, spray and splash features and a separate splash pad.

Shade: There are shaded areas at the splash pad and on the north side of the swimming pool.

Seating: There are chairs with backs located around the deck and underneath the shaded areas. They're metal, though, so bring towels to sit on.

Facilities: Separate boys and girls bathrooms and showers. It's busy, though, so there's often a line for the bathroom. You have to ask for toilet paper at the office area.

Condition: Clean and well kept. All of the features were working.

Family time: Family swim is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Fridays.

Kids call: This is the perfect place for kids of all ages. Lots of things going on, so they don't get bored.

"I liked the slide and the buckets over there," said my son, Noah Pittenger who is 9. "I liked how it was shallow enough to walk. The slide could probably be open longer...I didn't like having to wait to get in, but it was worth it."

Note: This pool gets really crowded. When we went at around 2 o'clock on a Thursday afternoon it was at capacity and they had a waiting list going. We only had to wait for about 15 minutes though.
