Intuit Inc. is laying off 200 employees at its Tucson office, or more than one-fifth of its local workforce.
The layoffs were confirmed in an email Tuesday by Elisabeth Gettelman, a corporate spokesperson
Gettelman would not immediately answer questions about the layoffs, including when they will go into effect.
The company expects to add positions over time, she said. “We continue to invest in and expect the site to remain an important regional hub for the company,” wrote Gettelman.
Intuit — a small-business, personal-finance and tax-software corporation — was listed as the 52nd- largest employer in Southern Arizona with 890 full-time-equivalent employees in this year’s Star 200 survey.
Its main local office is at 2800 E. Commerce Center Place, east of South Tucson Boulevard and north of East Bilby Road.
Intuit’s flagship products and services include QuickBooks, TurboTax, Demandforce and ProSeries. It was founded in 1983, and its headquarters are in Mountain View, California.
The company’s revenue in fiscal year 2013 was $4.2 billion, and it employs about 8,000 workers with major offices in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and India, says its online profile.
