Well it’s about time! Gary Allan is back
It’s been three years since country singer Gary Allan stood on a Tucson stage.
Boy we have missed him.
He returns on Saturday, a day after he turns 47.
His shows will remind you of hanging out at your favorite honky tonk, doing shots with the bartender and listening to some fantastic, hard-driving Southern rock-influenced country music. He has a deep and still growing catalogue of good songs, music that borrows from the blues and rock but can never be called anything but country: “Man To Man,” “Tough Little Boys,” “Nothing On But The Radio,” “Watching Airplanes,” “Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain),” “Best I Ever Had,” “Right Where I Need To Be.”
He comes here with his year-old album “Set You Free,” which was his first in a career spanning 20 years to debut at No 1. album on the Billboard 200 chart.

And if the music doesn’t convince you to come out and wish Allan a happy belated birthday, maybe his newfound status as one of Country Weekly Magazine’s newly crowned “Country’s Sexiest Men” will. He made it to No. 5.
Saturday’s concert starts at 8 at Desert Diamond Casino’s Diamond Entertainment Center, 1100 W. Pima Mine Road. Tickets are $37.50 to $50 at startickets.com

Dr. John plays the hits of Satchmo at the Fox
Legendary New Orleans pianist Dr. John will perform the hits of one of Crescent City’s most renowned trumpet players at the Fox Tucson Theatre Sunday.
The good doctor is on tour promoting his latest release, “Ske-Dat-De-Dat: The Spirit of Satch” which was released on Concord Records in August.
The album features many of Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong’s greatest hits, interpreted by Dr. John and a long list of guest stars, including the Blind Boys of Alabama, Terence Blanchard, Arturo Sandoval and Shemekia Copeland.
The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $29-$74 through the Fox box office, 547-3040.
Alt-J to rock the Rialto Wednesday
Alt-J, the English rock band from Leeds with the electric new album, “This is All Yours,” will perform at the Rialto Theatre Wednesday.
The band got its start in 2007, but has made significant waves with its latest release, thanks to songs such as the throwback track, “Left Hand Free” and the Miley Cyrus-sampled “Hunger of the Pine.”
The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35-$45 through the Rialto Box Office, 740-1000.
