DOVER, Del. — Kevin Harvick turned a lap at 162.933 mph to win the pole Friday at Dover International Speedway, leading the field for the third Chase race.
Led by Harvick, Chase for the Sprint Cup championship drivers took the top four spots and six of 10. Kyle Busch starts second, followed by Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski. Harvick’s seventh pole of the season gives him one more than he had combined in his career entering this season.
Jeff Gordon is sixth and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson is eighth. The rest of the Chase field has Kasey Kahne 12th, Matt Kenseth 14th, Joey Logano 16th, Carl Edwards 18th, Ryan Newman 20th, Aric Almirola 21st, Kurt Busch 22nd, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 25th, Greg Biffle 27th, and AJ Allmendinger 28th.

UA soccer loses Pac-12 opener to Trojans
The Arizona Wildcats soccer team lost 3-0 to No. 21 USC in their Pac-12 opener at Murphey Stadium on Friday. The Trojans (7-1-2) scored all of their goals in the second half as Arizona (6-2-1) was shut out for the first time this season.
• Madi Kingdon had 16 kills as the No. 18 UA volleyball team swept No. 20 UCLA in Malibu, California, on Friday night. Game scores were 25-20, 26-24, 27-25. Arizona is 13-1 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-12.
• The UA women’s cross-country team finished fourth and the men’s squad took fifth at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational in Earlysville, Virginia, on Friday. Senior Kristina Aubert took second in the 6,000-meter race in 20 minutes, 40.49 seconds. Senior Sam Macaluso finished in 11th (24:19.38) in the 8,000-meter men’s race.
• The Arizona men’s golf team was tied for 10th place after the opening day of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque on Friday. The Wildcats shot a 22-over 598 to move into a tie with Wyoming in the 15-team tournament. Freshman George Cunningham paced Arizona with a two-round total of 3-over 147 to put him in a tied for 24th.
• The Pima College men’s and women’s cross-country teams each finished second at the ACCAC meet on Friday in Phoenix.

Hornets ban Taylor from team activities
Charlotte Hornets forward Jeffery Taylor will not participate in any team-related activities during an NBA investigation into his arrest on domestic assault charges, the team announced Friday.
• The Phoenix Suns signed center Earl Barron and rookies Joe Jackson, Casey Prather and Jamil Wilson on Friday, giving them 18 players on the roster.
