Detectives arrested a 30-year-old woman Friday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in June that killed a man she knew and had been following, Tucson police said.
Detectives determined that the driver of the vehicle that fled the scene was Stephenie Schneider, who was booked Friday into the Pima County jail on suspicion of manslaughter and hit-and-run involving death, police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Bay said in a news release Saturday.
The collision occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on June 28 in the area of South Houghton and East Escalante roads. When police arrived, they found a critically injured Jonathan Potts, 33, on the ground near his vehicle; he died at a hospital on July 5 of the injuries.
Detectives discovered that Potts knew the two occupants of the vehicle that struck him "and that text messages had been sent back and forth before the collision occurred," police said in a previous news release. The investigation found that Potts had been traveling north on Houghton with his two teen-aged sons. The other vehicle was following them.

As Pott approached East Escalante, he pulled over and got out of his vehicle. "The suspect vehicle approached shortly after and struck the victim as he was standing by the roadway. Witnesses watched the suspect vehicle strike the victim and then flee the scene," police said previously.
