Elements, a home-accessory and gift boutique at 6380 E. Grant Road, opened its doors for a "trunk show" to benefit the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and the American Red Cross Southern Arizona Chapter.

Neighboring restaurant Montana Avenue provided hors d'oeuvres and wine for the three-hour fundraiser.

"I wanted to do a fundraiser where I could give them some money," said jewelry designer Laurie Wetterschneider, the "Laurie" in Laurie and Lisa Designs, whose pieces are regularly for sale at the boutique.

Wetterschneider provided a special selection of merchandise, some 500 pieces - what fit in her "trunk" - of necklaces and earrings, with 20 percent of sales going to the customer's choice between the Humane Society or the Red Cross.

"It's going good," said Elements owner Karol Gugino early on in the sale, as customers looked over the selection and had a bite to eat as well. "Women love to shop for jewelry. And donate to charity."
