Sun Tran strike update: Day 35
Negotiations: The Teamsters and Professional Transit Management, which operates Sun Tran, met with a federal mediator Tuesday. Neither side would discuss the talks. They did not meet for three days during the Labor Day weekend.
The city’s role: The Tucson City Council will get a report on the strike and Sun Tran management and operations at its 1:30 p.m. meeting Wednesday at City Hall, 255 W. Alameda.
Council members disagree on whether the city should end its contract with Professional Transit Management.
“PTM has got to go,” Council member Regina Romero said in a newsletter Tuesday. “PTM has only one job: to keep Sun Tran running. This monthlong work stoppage has shown they are unable to handle this job.”

In an earlier newsletter, Council member Richard Fimbres said firing the management and searching for a new contractor “would delay a resolution even further.”
Service: Sun Tran management added Route 23 to its list of limited weekday service, which operates from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Weekday routes are 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 29 and 34.
