Re: the Aug. 27 guest column "Abandoned by a church we supported and loved."
As a religious educator, my heart ached as I read the column by Ginny Roberts. It is unfortunate that often the institutions we look to for consolation, justice and morality fail to live up to those qualities. We need to remember that religious institutions are created by humans and are not perfect. Those imperfections however, must not keep us from our ongoing relationship with our Creator who is full of love and accepts us as we are.
Roberts is not alone in her struggle to understand how a church could be so unfeeling at a time when compassion should be the only response. There are many fine, dedicated ministers of the faith who would not have treated her situation in the manner she experienced. Ms. Roberts' article touched my heart, and I pray that she finds a prayer community that will support her.
