Short stuff: Stoglin, Natyazhko now teammates in Ukraine

From the “it’s a small world” department: Former Santa Rita state championship point guard Terrell Stoglin‘s odyssey continues. After playing last year in Greece and the first half of this season for Cholet, in France, Stoglin has become teammates with Kyryl Natyazhko on the Ukraine Azovmash franchise. Natyazhko, a former UA center, is averaging 7.8 points as Azovmash’s starting center. Stoglin averaged 15.6 in France, but left that team two weeks ago in a dispute with management. More small world: Former Wildcats Mustafa Shakur and Grant Jerrett are now teammates with the D-League’s Tulsa 66ers. Jerrett, who’s injured, hasn’t played for a month. Shakur, who turns 30 this year, scored 23 points in back-to-back games last week. … I think Kevin O’Neill has found his calling, and it’s not coaching. The former UA basketball coach is now a studio analyst for the Pac-12 Networks. His strength is that he tells it like it is, with insight, which the network desperately needed. If he can come close to providing the type of information Rick Neuheisel does on the Pac-12 Networks football studio shows, its oft-bland basketball presentation will move to a higher level. … A memorial service for former Arizona athletic director and Michigan Final Four basketball coach Dave Strack will be held in his hometown, Indianapolis, on June 14. Strack was most known for his Michigan and Arizona connections, but in 1941 he was an All-State basketball player in Indiana. Strack died a week ago in Oro Valley. He was 90. ... Interim UA swimming coach Rick DeMont will be without 2013 NCAA diving champion Samantha Pickens. She has decided to redshirt, beset by a shoulder injury. Pickens won the national championship in the 1-meter platform event last March, and was a member of the USA National Team. She will have one more season of eligibility at Arizona.
