WEMBLEY, England — David Beckham's free kick set up John Terry for the first international goal at the new Wembley stadium, but Diego scored in the second minute of injury time Friday night to give Brazil a 1-1 exhibition tie against England.
Beckham played with the national team for the first time since the World Cup quarterfinal loss to Portugal last July 1 in Germany.
Beckham, who will join Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy next month, received a standing ovation when he came off in the 77th minute.
It was Beckham's 95th game for England. He can get closer to the 100 mark Wednesday in a European Championship qualifier at Estonia.

WASHINGTON — Candice Dupree and Jia Perkins both scored 19 points, and the Chicago Sky beat the winless Washington Mystics 75-70 Friday night.
The Mystics (0-5) played just hours after coach Richie Adubato resigned. Adubato was replaced by Tree Rollins on an interim basis.

UA men's team finishes 24th
The UA men's golf team shot a 1-over 281 Friday to finish in 24th place at the NCAA Championships in Williamsburg, Va.
Arizona had a three-round total of 18-over 858. Stanford leads with a 12-under 828 and is two strokes ahead of Coastal Carolina (830).
Arizona missed the 54-hole cut by seven strokes.
Senior Josh Wilks capped his UA career with a 2-under 68, Arizona's low round of the championships, en route to a 5-over 215 total and a tie for 74th place.
Stanford's Rob Grube, Clemson's Kyle Stanley and Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale share the individual lead at 6-under 204.

Renowned baseball novelist dies
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Mark Harris, best known for baseball novels that included "Bang the Drum Slowly," has died. He was 84.
Harris died Wednesday, a month after he broke his hip in a fall and contracted pneumonia, Josephine, his wife of 61 years, said Friday. Harris had suffered from Alzheimer's disease, she said.
Harris wrote five nonfiction books and 13 novels, including the baseball books "The Southpaw" (1953), "Bang the Drum Slowly" (1956), "A Ticket for a Seamstitch" (1957) and "It Looked Like Forever" (1979).
● In Terme di Comano, Italy, Iban Mayo Diez of Spain won the 19th stage of the Giro d'Italia on Friday, and Danilo Di Luca of Italy retained the overall lead.
Mayo Diez finished in 4 hours 34 minutes 49 seconds. Di Luca finished 18th but maintained a 2:24 lead over Andy Schleck of Team CSC.
