City firefighters doused a blaze Saturday afternoon that began in a microwave and then scorched an East Side home's kitchen, causing about $50,000 in damage.
Firefighters were called about 12:45 p.m. to the home in the 9400 block of East Deer Trail, near South Harrison Road and East 29th Street, said Capt. Paul McDonough, Tucson Fire Department spokesman.
They arrived within minutes and had the blaze contained by 1 p.m.
McDonough said a woman who lives at the home was heating up some food when the fire started and spread.
She was not injured and the other residents were not home.
McDonough warned of the dangers of microwave or oven fires.
"If there is a fire in your microwave or in your oven, leave the door closed," he said.

Closing the doors on such appliances will usually put the fire out because it won't be able to get enough oxygen.
