Re: the April 17 letter “Rillito River cyclists need to slow down”
I fully agree with Tim Johnson’s letter to the editor regarding the need for cyclist to slow down — with one exception.
Being a daily user of The Loop, both as a pedestrian and as a cyclist, I would suggest that a vast majority of cyclist on The Loop do not ride at high speeds and are very considerate of pedestrians. Yes, there are a few that make using The Loop unsafe for others by riding at high speed, just as there are a few pedestrians that create unsafe conditions (dogs on 20-foot leashes, groups walking four abreast, to name just two).
As to the narrow path at the bridge underpasses, I recommend that in these conditions pedestrians walk in the left lane so as to see cyclist coming toward them. Seems to me the dangers/ scares occur when riders pass from behind.

Just as with most segments of our society, there are jerks on both sides of a situation.
