Approximately 40,000 Comcast customers are without service after an overhead fiber-optics line was pulled down and broken, an official said.
Comcast hopes to have service restored by 6:30 p.m. — just before the University of Arizona basketball game is scheduled to begin, said Kelle Maslyn, a Comcast spokeswoman.
The outage occurred around 3:20 p.m. in the area of West Magee Road and North Paseo Del Norte, Maslyn said. An asphalt crew was driving along, dumping asphalt with the bed of the truck in an upright position when the line was snagged and brought down.
Crews are on site working to repair the line and restore service.
“We apologize even though it’s not our fault,” Maslyn said. “We feel bad and are working as fast as we can to make sure everyone can watch the game.”
