Youth Career Expo to spotlight aerospace
Pima County will hold a Youth Career Expo on aerospace, defense and manufacturing, for young people ages 14-21 who want to explore careers in those fields.
The expo will run from 3 to 6 p.m. April 10 at Tucson International Airport, 7250 S. Tucson Blvd., and will feature exhibits and representatives from aerospace, defense and manufacturing employers and educators.
Seating is limited. Youths who want to attend must RSVP no later than Sunday, March 31. The form is at www.pima.gov/ced/employment-training/et-summer-youth-program.shtml . Email the completed form to Rebecca.Pitman@acehs.org or fax it to 791-9893.
About 300 young people attended the first Pima County Youth Career Expo in November, which focused on health-care careers.

The expos are organized by the Pima County Workforce Investment Board Youth Council and the Pima County One-Stop Career Center.

Mayor: Not time yet to repeal city food tax
PHOENIX - Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton is backing away from a campaign promise, saying he can't support an early repeal of the city's sales tax on food purchases.
The Arizona Republic reports that Stanton's position makes it highly unlikely the council will repeal the tax early.
Stanton cites so-so economic conditions and budget projections that say the city would have to lay off about 400 employees to cover a nearly $55 million shortfall resulting from a repeal this spring.
City Councilman Sal DeCiccio says the budget projections are a scare tactic to justify keeping the tax.
The council created the 2 percent tax to help close a $277 million budget shortfall during the economic slump in 2010.
The tax is scheduled to sunset in March 2015.
